Reporting threads - Has it gotten out of control?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by odin93, Jul 4, 2007.

Today, i was reading a great and very infomative thread. I really enjoyed what it said, but finished it and then went back to the spy tool. Within a few minutes i saw that someone reported it. So then i decided to follow some of the reported threads and some of them were actually informative and not junk. So why have people jsut starting reporting good threads? I think that this just overcomplicates the mods already complicated job? Any of yu have any thoughts on this?

I'm newbie here so not sure about answering, but reporting might include informative threads posted in wrong sections.

Happened all the time in other forum in which I was moderator for three years long.

That could be a possibility, never thought about that. Any other opinions?

Posts are reported for several reasons. Misplaced in the wrong category, bumping threads, useless post like "thank you" "pm sent", etc. They also are for spam affiliate links and other post that cause problems for the forum or breaks the rules. I am sure some are reported just for hateful reasons but most members are just trying to keep the forum running and weed out the crap post.

Seems the noob gang report people who they dont like.

By the way, the title should read "got out of control" "gotten" is another word that you americans made up....

That's sad...though as the member name gets sent along with the report the mod team will know who to ignore, and likely who to add to their s*** lists.

At some point all words were made up...

but luckily gotten is a real word now so it's OK to use.
    Main Entry: gotten
    past participle of GET

Some of the moderators encourage members to report suspect threads - looks like their words are paying off. I guess I report 2 or 3 a day, usually for being misplaced or spamming.

Lots of posts get reported that are not in violation of any rule. Those reports just get closed without any action.

I don't know how the spy works, but does it list the thread title if reporting say the 5th post? If so, then there likely could have been a violation. Also, the mods are not infallible...I'm thinking that some have crossed [guide]lines.

THe spy owrks, that if you report a thread then it shows thread title, but if you report a post then it shows thread title and what they posted. Take alook at it its always interesting to see whats happening.

I'm on dial up, and it eats up my measly 48.8 connection :( (I tradded ADSL for Dialup to live in the middle of nowhere with a nice view of the mountains, it's worth it overall, but I do miss out on a few perks, like youtube & the DP spy thing ;) )
