I decided to report few spammy sites to yahoo though I have better serps than these sites (because frankly the results page looks ugly with these machine generated pages. Plus they might soon outrank me). I noticed few things. 1. I ended up reporting 4 sites in just the first page. 2. I wanted to look for the page where to report spam to yahoo. I used the keyword "report spam to yahoo" in yahoo SE. and the page is nowhere, at least the first 20 results. http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&p=report+spam+to+yahoo&fr=sfp&b=1 While in google it is the first result : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-29,GGLG:en&q=report+spam+to+yahoo Just an example on how irrelevant is yahoo compared to google
I think that this reporting spam function sucks becouse valueable information for you can be spam for me and viceversa. This function should work invidually and should be called block site.
The link is not cancelled. I am not sure it is effective though. http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/ysearch/cgi_reportsearchspam
Do they (Google and Yahoo!) take actions on this reports? I have some links to report too. How do they check them? Manualy or..?
G has stated reasonably publicly (I think maybe even on the form) that they don't go after the offender individually (usually) but rather use the information to adapt the algo to better prevent the reported problem. Whatever means. Yahoo, on the other hand, doesn't seem to do anything - except in a couple cases to actually raise the spammy ranking. Who knows, but think it is worthwile reporting the bad cases. It might work, and it's always a little cathartic.
Do they make the relevant language criteria or just taking knowlege of them and that`s it? I mean the multilanguage SE, like google.ro or google.nl for instance.
I don't know if it's just a coincidence or not, but I reported several scraper sites a while ago (found my own content on those sites), and after a week 7-8 of the 10 sites I reported were gone from the index..
looks like a spammer is around us and gave me a bad reputation. you could at least have left a message
