Report: Iran suicide bombers ready

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Iranian officials say they have 40,000 suicide bombers ready to attack U.S. and British targets in the Middle East if Iran's nuclear facilities are attacked.

The Sunday Times of London reports a tape of a speech by Dr. Hassan Abbasi, top official of the Center for Doctrinal Strategic Studies in the Revolutionary Guards, has him saying, We are ready to attack American and British sensitive points if they attack Iran's nuclear facilities.


The world got its first look at the Special Unit of Martyr Seekers in the Revolutionary Guard in March during a parade.

The troops' equipment showed bomb-laden packs around olive-colored uniforms.

Volunteers for the special force were asked which they preferred, carrying suicide attacks out in Iraq or Israel, The Sunday Times said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad kept up his anti-Israel rhetoric Friday during a pro-Palestinian conference, calling for the country to be annihilated.

The International Atomic Energy Agency and the U.N. Security Council are debating the threat of Iran's nuclear program to the world -- a program Tehran insists is for energy needs, not weapons.
