Report a Scammer

Please can someone explain how you can report a scammer on DP without getting an infraction ?

Of course the standard answer is to apply negative itrader if you've been scammed.

However, one way (I've found) to "ferret out" a suspected scammer (unless he is actually selling ferrets in a legitimate manner), is to ask appropriate questions in the thread which refer directly to anything that is misleading or deceptive. (ie. Before sending you any money, can you verify that you are the owner of this website? In the past, I've had questions about authenticity.)

If the thread starter is unable to adequately answer any potential allegations, then hopefully the rest of the members become more aware of the person's "alleged" practices so that they are not scammed themselves.

Otherwise, if you accuse someone, it's your word against theirs, and no one is really interested in arbitrating your business affairs.

You're more likely to get an infraction if you are making inappropriate statements, such as calling a person a scammers because they didn't send you that ferret you bought from them.
