Replacing Username as First & Last when registering...

I really wanted a way for people to register using their real "First & Last" name instead of Usernames.. similar to that of Facebook.

I don't enjoy people registering with usernames as it is can be difficult to find friends and to know who's who on the community memberlist.

I'm sure it can be done but required few hard coding.

    Any suggestion is highly appreciated,

Couldn't you just rename the username field to "Name"? Obviously there's no way to prevent someone from entering a fake name, but same with Facebook too.

I don't know what vB's code looks like, but you could edit the registration template to go from one "Username" field to two fields ("First name" and "Last name"), then use PHP's implode() to merge them before being sent to the database?

You both are right.. but the issue here is what if 2 or more people have the SAME first and last name as Joe Smith (it's a big world you know :))? If this is the case we know vB only accept the the first person that register that name.. it's kinda like first come first serve sort of things.. in a way it sucks..

I really want the system to allow multiply same name registration that way it doesn't matter how many folks has the same full name the system still register and accept them as a member.

For example, if you do a Joe Smith search on Facebook.. you'll find tons of people associate with that name.. which vB doesn't allow.. like vB Usernames.. no one can register digitalpoint, nhatle84 or subdivisions ;)

Well Facebook makes you pick a unique username... so you could do it similar... pick a username and then secondary first/last name which aren't necessarily unique.

Hmm.. that's interesting, tho I receive this from Steve earlier over vbulletin:

So all in all it's possible as long you know how, what and where to code? I'm guessing one would have to mess with their hard .php coding files.. if anyone knows a mod/hack that allow this please share, and also I don't mind paying $10 if you could pull this off ;)
