I am currently operating my Pentium Dual Core 2.66 GHz PC with a 256MB DDR2 RAM (400MHz)...I wanted to replace it with a 1GB DDR2 RAM..but it has 667MHz..can it be replaced?? or do I need a RAM with 400MHz to replace my existing RAM??

I am really clueless about the "MHz" thing..please forgive my ignorance..I just copied my RAM specifications from my PC manual..

Here are some additional details. I scanned my PC with Crucial System Scanner and got the following details:

So, shall I go ahead and purchase a DDR PC3200 RAM?? Wont it conflict with my present DDR2 RAM??

    Thanks.

YES!!! More ram is better in your situation.... 256 MB ram is pretty much a no go in this day and age. Even junky bare bone $199 computers come with 512.

Your MB is important when it comes to the type of ram you want to get btw, but If its DDR2 you're only talking about $30-35 for 2 gigs that's including shipping max.

Edit for Clarification: Most important thing is to MAKE SURE what the Motherboard can support. If it supports DDR2 800(pc26400) get the max you can. It will handle anything lower as well. So if 800 is max it can work with any down to your 400.

well, the crucial system scanner says that my motherboard has 400 as the max..that means i cant get DDR2 800's for that..all IT stores near my home have stocked up DDR2 667 and above..which i dont think I can use in my case..

I think it's OK, you can use a RAM that runs at higher frequency than your motherboard do.
