Replacing Adsense with your own program

Just curious if there is anyone that has found success in replacing adsense with their own ad program.

In my case, I have been:
    1) Attracting more new users
    2) Increasing the number of return visitors
    3) Increasing the number of page views and ad units show

    Yet...

The money continues to go downward. I am getting very close to it being economically worthwhile to replace adsense and find advertisers on my own. The site is www.dance-forums.com, the largest site for ballroom dancing and partner dancing on the net.

    What do you think?

Well in general forums always earn less then a regular website. I've seen a couple people here actually find advertisers themselves and got paid a nice handful of money.

What do you mean by repalcing it with your own ad program. How will you get paid with your own ads? You can try alternatives to adsense or affiliate programs.

He meant that other webmaster pay a monthly or yearly fee of having their banner or text ad on his site.

If your site gets a lot of visitors and you constantly get requests for advertisement from interested parties you can easily quit AdSense and create your own system.

You don't even need to create a system, really, as there are plenty of cookie-cutter advertisement products on the market.

The real question is where to get the traffic and advertisers.

If you can manage that - there is no reason to share your hard-earned revenue with Google.

Why should you go for own ad program? With services like Adbrite we have a similar solution right?
I mean we have the power to control the ads, at the same time a powerful program to manage the backend.

Why not use both? Then you could double dip the profits. Unless you were banned from adsense or can't use it for some reason, this would be the best course of action.

Exactly. I have both Adsense and banners / text links running on a few sites. The latter mostly because people approached me for buying ads on those sites. Those direct advertisers are an excellent supplement to adsense income.

On some of my sites I use my own ads, but they are set up to look like google ads. They link to either my own products or to affiliate products. I think it is a good alternative, plus you can set them up at whatever size you like, you aren't limited to googles choices - and you're not going to get banned :)

Or you could also as suggested above, use your own banners to your own products or affiliate links, or sell banner space.

You've got a fairly good page ranking, so make the most of it, I'd probably try some banners linking to your own products or affiliates, banners will stand out a bit and brighten the page up so may be more 'clickable'

I say do both. Not all advertisers are familiar or know how to use Adwords.

this one is depend on how much you can earn from your own ads and how much you can earn from adsense per month. normally if you got high traffic ofcourse adsense will be better. but sometime if you got a good sponsor but low traffic i think money you get from your own ads might be more.
