replace <iframe> content containing APPLET

I have built twelve 3D JAVA applets (about 300k each), and they represent brick paver patterns. To present these patterns I setup an HTML page, with a 160 left column and 600 right column. The 160 col contains the HTML nav buttons and the 600 col is an <iframe>.

The HTML buttons work, they load the seperate HTML pages into the <iframe>... except,

when the (java applet) "DOUBLE WEAVE" button is clicked - the APPLET loads into the <iframe> and works fine - however, the HTML buttons will not load any further pages into the <iframe> after an APPLET has been loaded. All buttons create "pop-ups" instead of loading into the <iframe>.

Anyone know how to RESET the target <iframe> so it will accept a new APPLET web page.

the IFRAME / APPLET problem looks like an IE6 issue, becasue I just tried my test page in FireFox and the page worked fine.
