I report quite a lot of rubbish, mainly advertising and spam posted in the Marketing forum and sub forums. I am pretty good at spotting the junk, I can usually scan down the first page of the forum and pick out the obvious ones and then I go through and report them. It's a bit of a pain having to wait 60 seconds between each report when I am sat with five threads all waiting to be reported. Could it not be changed to a captcha system instead of a time delay?
I have suggested this before. Shawn gave me some valuable information about it when he gave me the answer. He told me that vBulletin's send email feature and the thread reporting feature time allowance are built into the same thing. Therefore, just say the limit was decreased to 30 seconds, that would mean emails would be able to be sent every 30 seconds too. Which, of course, helps spammers spam more people, more often. I was quite puzzled as to why these times are built the same, so I done some investigating. Then it hit me. When you report a post, by default in vBulletin (although I imagine it's different here), reports are sent to the Moderators via email. Emails = reports, hence the time limit. However, I think a captcha system would work just as well, and I don't think it would take much more work to code Shawn...
Time delay is a better option , in my opinion. Captcha would be an added headache, when reporting. It's not like the reporters are spamming or they are bots.. Wait for 60 seconds, cool yourself down , go find out more threads which need reporting ... ( it's not like anyone's getting paid for reporting, is it )
When you come across threads which need reporting, it's quite annoying to have to wait 60 seconds to report it. By the time you've reported that, you might have found one or two more that need reporting. So it's quite a task.
