I have a couple of basic adwords questions... 1.What if the same keyword is used in multiple adgroups within the same campaign ? 2.What if the same keyword is used in multiple campaigns ? Would I be bidding against myself in 1, 2 situations. Thanks for any pointers ATT
You shouldn't do that. All the keywords have to be unique, you can't repeat them in another adgroup or campaign.
You are sort of competing with yourself - you won't get more impressions out of it i.e. google won't show an ad from you twice for the same search, the one that has the best ctr will be shown
You won't show up more than once. Google will choose which ad to show (the one with the highest click-through rate).
No,google will not show even a single ad.May be for some time but after 15-20 minutes ur ads will be gone.
Kim@asm - what was the point in repeating what I'd already posted? getjimmy - why do you think they won't show any ad? As I understand the original question, is wasn't about having 2 accounts or anything deceptive - this is what google say :-https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=66292&query=keyword+in+more+than+one+group&topic=&type=f&onClick= Below, you will find an explanation of how the AdWords system determines which keyword, when it is one of multiple identical keywords, is allowed to trigger an ad and accrue an impression. I. Multiple Identical Keywords With the Same Match Type The keyword with the highest CPC bid will be allowed to trigger an ad. If the keywords have the same CPC bids, then the system will pick one at random. Note: This assumes that none of the campaigns have already met their daily budget. II. Multiple Identical Keywords With Different Match Types The more restrictive match type will always trigger the ad, regardless of CPC bids. For instance, if the broad-matched keyword apple and the exact-matched keyword apple both existed in your account, the exact match would always trigger an ad.
