I have a couple of good domain names which i dont want to sell but id like to make money from, ie. renting them to some other developer Does anyone have any experience of this ?
Never heard anyone try and do this before. I can see it causing some issues in the long rung. Have you tried parking your domains to try and earn some revenue?
I think http://www.leasethis.com/ does this..........I dont think many domainers do this at the moment but this is something of the future which will become very big I think. But at the moment I can not see that happening.
Parking wouldnt generate too much id say as the domains are .ie but they would of benefit to a few of the big car sale sites in Ireland. www.ModifiedCar.ie www.ModifiedCars.ie www.MotorParts.ie
we have "rented" about 40 active names so far and it is a good long-term model. it is attractive if the selling price of the name is high but the buyer can afford a down payment and monthly payments instead.
even i have some domain names. but i dont have any idea where to park. i want to give that for rent rather than selling them out. ll this click for me. if so how?
I've read a little about this. It is not a widely used concept as yet...but as hecto said, it will probably catch on eventually. Seems to me in the case of a rented domain (as opposed to a leased domain), the registrant stands to potentially benefit the most...assuming all works out well. If the rental is not leading up to a sale, then all marketing and development put into it by the renter would eventually benefit the registrant - as the domain remains with them after the rental period is over. On the other hand, if the renter trashes the domain and gets it blacklisted... A lease-to-own sounds seems much better for both sides, as each has an incentive to maintain the domain. ( I think this is the concept adopted by leasethis.com) .

This is something I believe can work but there is alot to consider that the leasee does not "tarnish" the domain because let's say they rented it for a year and screwed their public, now YOUR property is damaged in a way that a landlord must recoupe from a damaged apt. building after having bad tenants. No one may even visit the site after a "bad rap". Risky but it can go good to provided the partner has a solid plan. I also would consider renting it in a "equity stake" of share of profits. Contract everything before doing anything.
hmmm this is an interesting concept. I'll have to look into it. Anyone have any experience with any of these sites?
