I've posted about 30 projects on RAC and have developed many great relationships with coders. I've spent thousands of dollars and have a 10 feedback on that site. But have any of you ever noticed that whoever runs that site is a complete idiot? Every once in a while I'll have a project that needs to be terminated. The coder and I usually come to an agreement as what % he gets paid and then we move on...but with RAC, let's say the project was for $500 and the coder agrees that he's completed $100 worth of work. On RAC, they want to get paid for their percentage on the $500, even though the project was terminated by mutual agreement of the coder and the buyer for $100. A well run company would simply refund the remaining monies and then get their money when I eventually bid out another project. Are there better altnernatives to Rent a coder? I'm sick of dealing with them. Complete waste of time. Plus their entire platform seems to be coded by 10 year olds. So I'm looking for an alternative, any suggestions are welcomed!
I used to use elance and they were very good but I haven't needed them for a few years now, though probably still worth a look.
Im not using elance,, Its safer If youll use a company IT outsourcing service. India and Philippines are the greats and cheaper in this field. Cheers!
you can always try posting at my site: http://www.devbistro.com . not strictly freelace but there are plenty of freelance telecommute gigs out there. job posting is free and the candidates will contact you directly give it a try and let me know if you have any feedback. best, james
Our site will not have this problem - we are not charging fees. We are now building the site and signing up freelancers. If you are interested in posting projects, send me a PM and I will notify you when we begin signing up webmasters and allow projects to be posted (planned for early July).

If you've developed a great relationship with many coders as you say, why not give them first shot at your future projects instead of going through any system?
I am a coder: Here is my resume there. rentacoder.com/RentACoder/SoftwareCoders/showBioInfo.asp?lngAuthorId=632999 The owner of the site is Ian Ippolito... he is a good guy and runs fair show.. The arbitration process can use A GREAT DEAL of improvement. I agree with you on that. Freelance work is hard to come by.. but RAC seriously is your best option... Unless of course you want to hire me.... wink wink...
You are speeking about this auction: "IIS rewrite install" http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/misc/BidRequests/ShowBidRequest.asp?lngBidRequestId=269663 I can see: you are acccept coder's bid for $100 Also I can see: "100% of work completed and accepted. Coder has been paid." Please, say: how "$500" involved here and what percentage (above standard) you pay to RAC ?
I have have met some really good coders on RAC in the past. I actually worked with TakeReal a while ago. He did good work. What I have found though is often some of the best coders don't spend time on RAC, because they are busy doing other things, so word of mouth has been my best way of finding quality programmers.
I agree with avoiding rent a coder. I would say try scriptlance but there is a high percentage at scriptlance that pass off gpled code and such as their own.

I'm using RentaCoder for 2 projects right now and they're getting close to being finished. I've been overall pretty happy so far.
