Rendering problem in Firefox

Can someone please take a look at this page in both IE & Firefox: www.emerge(dash)solutions.com/dc2_index.htm

The menu looks fine in IE but gets moved down in Firefox and I don't know why. Also, why is Firefox creating a top and bottom margin when I specified 0? It looks fine in IE.

    Thank you!!

Easy solution. Never look at a site in FF for web design. It does not have the same standards as IE. Therefore, only view your design in IE.

Never look at a site I've designed in Firefox? That goes against everything I've ever read about designing websites. Everyone seems to say that you should design your site to appear properly in the most popular browsers, IE, FF, Netscape, and Safari. Why would I want to disregard those 10-15% of people who are browsing with FF?

Wow, is that meant to be a joke? That's terrible advice! FF, Opera, Safari, etc. are in virtual compliance with the standards, whereas IE isn't. That doesn't mean you should design for IE by any means. You should always design a site based on standards, making minor tweaks to get it to work in IE, while still maintaining full compliance with standards.

What happens when you design a site exclusively for IE6 and find out that IE7 is closer to standards support and it breaks your site? You always want to reach a maximum number of people, and designing for IE specifically will kill that goal. Consider tech sites that are largely non-IE users. One of my sites is ~ 50% IE. If I designed for IE only, I would be neglecting half of my visitors. Accessibility is one of the primary goals of any web design.

As far as the original post, the file does not appear to be there anymore?

I'm not designing sites for techies - mainly small businesses (non-technical) who I'm guessing the large majority of use IE. That's why I mainly design for IE but still want the site to look decent in Firefox/Netscape. It always seems to be a spacing issue - Can you try the link again: www.emerge-solutions.com/dct2_index.htm

    Thanks.

Link is working for me now. I don't have access to IE6 at the moment, but I checked in FF, Safari, and IE7B3 and they all displayed the same spacing. Tough to say exactly how much it is, but about 1cm or ~40px. It looks fine that way, IMO.

Where is GODS name did you come up with that CRAP!

That has got to be THE dumbest thing Ive heard of this year!

ALWAYS design in Firefox FIRST and then (and only then) look at it in IE and fix the stupid mistakes it makes!

I dont care WHO you are designing a site for . ... do it right for BOTH!

So can anyone tell me how to fix this spacing problem in Firefox? It is definitely NOT ok as it is - you can't even see the menu.

Try adding: style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;" to your body tag.
Then see what happens if you get rid of the table that the navigation is in (starts around line 25). Remove the p tag as well and see how that displays.
