Renaming of the BLOG

I'm new to the web design concept. I'm running a wordpress blog at my site with the url http://www.onlinedownloads.org/diary ....diary being a subdomain.

After some recommendations, I was told that I should rename the diary to blog such as http://blog.onlinedownloads.org

When i checked in the CP, it was reported that diary was a sub-domain. But in the wordpress blod dashboard options, I've filled the url to be http://www.onlinedownloads.org/diary

Can i directly rename the sudomain/folder in the CP? Are there any other isues to be considerd? What is the procedure involved in it?

If I change this, How would search engine consider the change?

What I want is http://blog.onlinedownloads.org as the word diary seems to be a personal one not a professional.

whn u login to your wp admin, under options u should be able to change it, if not you will have to manually edit the database via a program such as phpmyadmin

if u just redirect by cpanel...then search engine wont consider....but u do it in options in wordpress admin panel...change the blog url and not the wordpress url in the options....and check if everything is write...

And now if the inner link does not appear in the form of http://subdomain.domain.com/category/sometext

    and still appear like
    domain.com/diary/category/permalink

then u have to add a cname record to your domain cpanel....cname is a way to add subdomains to domain.....not redirect ..complete change...not sure still...

At this point it will not make much difference as you only have 3-4 links pointing to your subdomain. So this is the right time for you to go ahead and make a change. I would suggest using domain cp to add cname records for 'blog', that's the best way to do it. I can see you hosted at hostmonster so it will be a good idea to raise a support ticket. I guess they will be helpful enough to do that for you.
    Nice blog! ATB
