Removing extension(.aspx,.html,.php) from any site will it be the only reason for dropping SERP?

I have one doubt , we have removed extensions from the inner pages and there is a sudden drop in SERP. We have already submitted latest sitemap to webmasters and also sent url removal requests to google.Any other suggestions ?

Can't you return to those extensions again? Also, did you ping your WHOLE website after you saw this SERP drop and WHEN exactly did this SERP drop happen -> Just after you remove the extensions or for example a few days after this (Like after you sent URL removal request to Google)?

It sounds like the location of the pages has technically changed, what happens when you go to the old link with the .asp extension or whatever it was? If it gives you an error 404 page then you need to redirect the old location to the new one and immediately.
