Removing and Republishing an Article - Duplicate Content?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by boron, Jan 7, 2009.

I have removed 14 articles from one blog before New Year and I intend to republish them on the other blog since articles from the other blog always rank good in Google.

Question: After 2 weeks I still see removed articles in Google SERPs. If I republish them on the other blog, do I risk "having double content"?

This won't be duplicate content because the old article pages will be deindexed. You can search for a part of the article with quotes to see the number of results.

It will take some time for Google to remove the blog posts from their index. You can wait and watch and as and when it gets removed you can publish the articles on the new blog.

Alternatively, if you have access to GWT of the old blog, you can put in the URL removal request for all the URLs that you wish to be removed from Google index. The official time line quoted is 3-5 days.

Better still, you could redirect (301) all the old URLs to the respective new URLs and you could carry along the link juice.

If I search for "keyword", the old blog doesn't appear in 1,000 results in Google. But if I use site:site.com "keyword" then it appears.

I think Google remember things for month. I think I'll just re-publish and see.

Don't search for "keyword" search for an excerpt of the article which is longer.

Does any another page on your site have the keyword? If yes, it could come on site:site.com "keyword"

The word could have been also found on an archived or category page which Google has not re spidered

Exact removed urls appear in serps. So removed pages.

And just coincidently...I've found Google remembers some of my post titles I've changed before October 08.

Yes, If I grab a random paragraph and put it in Google, exact url appear there - pointing to 404 page.

My question is, does Google checks for duplicate content in Google itself or on sites.

My experience from last month. I've changed (modified) titles of some posts. Now I rank for both titles...

i dont think duplicate content is an issue here, bkoz when you view your article on different article websites or blogs sites, it usually has other content on that page around the article itself, so i dont think google will se it as the same content. maybe im wrong but also consider this if you have to remove your content every time then what happens when someone else uses your article on their website, are you going to chase them up and ask them to remove it. also if my competitor has content on his website and i copy it and paste it to my dummy website will this then effect my competitor?

Several other sites copy our articles. The duplicate content is an issue for them not for us. They rank nowhere...Duplicate comes after the original (date), so no problem what's what.

Yeah, I don't see a problem with this as long as you wait and ensure that the pages are no longer indexed before posting them on another site.
