Remove 301 Redirect

I have a few sites pointing to a main site using a 301 redirect but I have not noticed any significant increase in traffic, rankings or PR from these redirects. In fact, the sites did much better separated.

Would there be any penalty in removing the "permanent redirect?"

    Hi,

You gave the answer yourself, didn't you? As you seem to be sure that these redirects do not help your traffic and your ranking, then removing the redirects will not hurt. I would doublecheck the links pointing to the redirecting sites: if there are links with high PR, I would try to get them point directly to the main site.

Well, I would have hoped that I answered my own question, but wanted to make sure.

Has anyone here ever had any experience in removing a 301 redirect after they placed one and what was the experience?
