in a couple months from now, quite possibly the business that i run may be switching e-commerce platforms from osCommerce to Magento. as of right now, our pages are greatly indexed within Google, and somewhat within Yahoo. the main site has a PR3 status and some inner pages are PR2/PR1/PR0. some may argue that PR is just a number, and that content/quality links is more golden. anyways if we were to switch over, i'd more than likely have to use the "removal of site" from the Google Webmaster Tools and start over with new sitemaps and such. my question is if i use that feature, will Google stop crawling my new website (since i removed it from search), or will it continue so that it can index the new pages?
eh I wouldn't bother with the removal when google bot crawls your site the old osCommerce urls google has index will return a 404 and google will eventually remove them. Remember when you use the removal tool it will remove it from google for at least 6 months before google even thinks about re-indexing so don't go removing your www.domain.com address in there.
thanks for the heads up! so i shouldn't bother 404 redirecting (or 301) redirecting to the new website for all those missing pages?
and how may i go about doing that? the link to my site is in my signature. i sell many products and the url's are all dynamic from what the title of the product is. would i have to 301 redirect ALL THOSE urls?
