Love GeneratePress - very fast and simple theme! I would use Gutenberg blocks and build out a custom homepage - something clean and simple. It looks like you thought of SEO as you set up the sidebar and created the content, this is excellent! I would make the sidebar sticky so it scrolls with the user (not a big deal, it would just look less plain on desktop view). Set up a mailing list and add an opt-in form to the sidebar and keep doing what you're doing.
Your articles are well-researched and as such will make it to a good SERP. Keep up the good work. Tip: Place some images on the home page, will make it more digestible to users.
The design is simple and the load times are fast. The articles seem well put together and researched with a good a amount of images. I would suggest adding just a bit of styling to the homepage to make it less spammy looking.
