Religiousness and education

A dating website did some analyses with their user database and one of the factors to compare was religious denomination versus writing proficiency. Of course the "study" is not scientifically designed but anyways, after all, the religious give a shit about science don't they?

It's all bad news for Christians: Protestants and Catholics scored the worst. Protestants specifically. I believe they tend to prefer homeschooling over public education. There you go.

Good news for Muslims! They scored much better than Christians. Stop cheering though, good news end there. Hindus scored a bit better. Even worst: Jews scored FAR better!

Not surprisingly, atheists are at the top.

Yeh, that's a political talking point to shoot down parents who want to home school. After all, if all the parents pulled their kids out of public schools, who would pay all those union salaries? To that end, lets just say that anyone who prefers to home school is teaching their kids creationism.

Personally, I'll keep my kids out of public schools as long as possible. If I can get the government to refund the taxes I pay towards the public school I'm not using, so much the better.

I noticed the Atheists lag behind the casual Buddhists. Perhaps militant Atheism is bad for the brain?

"casual Buddhists" are pretty much atheists anyway, What with buddhists not having a god. It's more a philosophy than a religion. Nice to see we kicked the shit out of everyone else, I don't think anyone is actually surprised by these findings though. The religious are ill-educated... whowouldathunkit?! lol

A philosophy about the afterlife IS what we call religion, which is why Atheism qualifies. I was trolling a bit when I pointed out the Buddhists have the atheists beat, as these types of charts ignore a myriad of contributing factors to focus on a single correlation.

That said, the jump on the charts between the casual buddhists and militant atheists is not a small one. As you pointed out, Buddhism is a godless religion that does not preclude spirituality, correlating more strongly with agnosticism. With such an open mindedness, the fact they draw a more evolved population does not surprise me in the slightest.
