Reliable off-shore registrar with good interface and WHOIS privacy?

There really should be a website out there for comparing registrars around the world with user reviews...

Anyone know a reliable off-shore domain registrar that allows you to have WHOIS privacy on both .com and also .org? More and more American registrars are blocking privacy on .org domains and now .us also...

    - easy, slick, english interface is a must
    - reliable company that has existed for a while
    - in a country whose government doesn't cater to special interest groups

Please let me know... thanks! P

Registrars anywhere in the world have to comply with ICANN and registry regulations. The dot US registry does not allow private registration so no registrar can provide it. One of the biggest "off-shore" registrars is answerable.com/resellerclub.com (Directi) - located in India - & with free WHOIS privacy.

Ok thanks. Yes, but many registrars ignore the ICANN guidelines and offer WHOIS privacy on any domain.

We've been told by Domain.com (a reseller for Doster.com) that they are not allowed to provide WHOIS privacy on any .org domains anymore... and they've refused to look into it for us. Anyone else heard similiar problems with .org domains?

After checking a few more forums, it looks like answerable.com is one of the most recommended "off-shore" registrars out there, or at least one of the few registrars that respects registrant info and accounts.

For future readers, it sounds like many users have been happy with Gandi.net and Rebel.com as well...

Answerable is directi, I don't recommend them one bit. LogicBoxes is one of worst interfaces ever designed imo. They also have some very questionable laws in india regarding IT stuff that I wouldnt want to be hosted there.
    See:

forgot to mention, resellerclub is also directi, all under that company.

Interesting... so I guess Directi is getting more and more sketchy these days...

Hmm so it seems like Melbourne IT and Gandi are still on the table... anyone have any comments on them? And anyone have experience with Rebel.com or any other good non-US registrars?

Don't forget Tucows. If there are a couple registrars that really do business right Tucows would be on the list (along with Fabulous). They are canada based and while a bit more expensive than bottom, many people find it worth it. Fabulous is also in australia but doesnt provide whois protection.

MelbourneIT if you got significant registration volume does negotiate bulk deals down to relatively competitive levels (talking 1000+ regs). Gandi I have no real first hand experience with.
