Hi, I am new here so please don't hurt me I am curious which is better? 1) A relevant backlink from a PR 0 site OR a non-relevant backlink from a PR 4 site? 2) A relevant backlink from a 0 PR site OR a non-relevant reciprical link from a PR 6 site?
LivIT, no one, other than the engineers in the various search engines know this. however personally i'd go for the pr4 or pr6 link over the pr0 one anyday. but then the pr0 link might give you more targeted traffic. and the pr0 site might not have received its page rank yet. so i'd try and pick up the pr0 one as well... not sure that helps but... thomas
Don't forget that todays PR0 site could change to PR4 quite easily at the next update. Google update their internal PR figures pretty much daily as well I believe. Check the history of the sites first. If you find the PR0 site is new and looks a good site then its fair to assume it will get a higher PR and become a valuable backlink in the future. If the PR0 is more than 6 months old then there is some kind of problem and I would go with the established site.
Good advice there thanks. I have always wondered these things it is good to get other opinions on the matter.
If you are looking for PR then go with the PR6. If you want to improve your serps the relevent PR0 link is much better (as long as it is not banned).
For search-results I would still also go with the PR6 or PR4. Making sure the link-text has relevant keywords in it. The PR0 is more of an investment into the future, if the site is worth anything to people.
For serp ranking, chose the site with relevant link. And if you want more traffic, choose the site with the PR6 or PR4.
A PR4 link is superior to a PR0 link, no matter how relevant the PR0 link is. You can assume that the PR0 link will gain Pagerank at some point, but the PR4 link is already there and can gain Pagerank itself. If PR0 links really were better than non-relevant PR4 links, the whole paid links industry would be dead in the water and everyone would be doing article marketing instead. But it's not, because it's a fact that high PR links boost rankings.
