Relevant Ads

    http://operates.us/ is the site.

Why can I not get it to show relevant ads? I have another site, http://bashes.net and as you can see those ads are much more relevant (proxy).

I have all the meta keywords filled out in index.php in both sites. And the word "Proxy" is also in the title, and it still shows like credit card ads for some reason.

    Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks!

What matters is the (text) content close to your ads. Since there is none, your ads are untargeted. Also and as a personal tip: Your ad placement is ridiculous. Less is more. Your visitors will not have enough confidence in clicking, if you bombard them with banners. Counting on accidental clicks will do you no good, as those will not end in sales and hence you might find yourself smartpriced soon (or worse: banned). Last but not least: Adslots in adunits are populated by value. The more ads you allow, the higher the chance of visitors clicking low paying ads.

PS: Thinking some more about it: The AdSense TOS does not allow to put banners on pages without content. I'd suggest either removing the banners or adding more (meaningful) text.

blackonyx, thanks for your detailed response.

Visit http://damgod.com. That is almost the exact same layout and his ads are great. Any other suggestions?

    • Add more content (text!) to the page. Google is not really fond of sites containing too little of it
    • Try using just one banner (did wonders for me). Seven is the magic number (cognitive distance). The human mind can only handle so many different objects at once and with most people it's even less then seven.
    • Try using imagetype banners only. Since the rest of the page is textonly, the banner sticks out nicely (another reason, why one banner is enough).
    • Don't target "proxy" as keyword (at least not for the ads). Thats just ridiculous. If people come to you for a proxy service, they are not interested in getting ads for another proxy service. Think about it: If you were a car dealer, would you hand out flyers for a different brand?
    • Have fun digging through my blog, theres some more stuff about the topic.
