Hiya, On the google quality guidelines we are told to: "Have other relevant sites link to yours" but what is relevant? I am working on a property site selling apartments and villas in the south of france. Does this mean I can link to any site relating to France/South of France, or only other realitor sites around the world, or both. Could i for example link to a restaurant in St Tropez, and we sell houses in St Tropez? Should you link to people using your top ten keywords, or top 20? Relevant seems a little vague.....can anyone help? Nicely
Well, Relevance would be in your case anything to do with property sites from france and anywhere in the world. Of course, if you are doing property and you link to say a site which is retailing paper cups then there is no relevance there. Link with whatever is related to that part of france and properties.
this is my problem eddy; would a paper cup factory in the south of france not be as relevant as a property company in the antartic? is it relevance by location, or by product; and where is this explained. e.g. could i link with a french removals company as a french property company (only a subtle link) but I know people i sell houses to may need a removals company, and will google give credit for that link?
I think you have to ask yourself, "will this site be of interest to my site visitors?" You could break your link directory up into sections: 1. South of France - Community. This is where you can include area restaurants and attractions. I wouldn't include a paper cup company in France because that is not something a person looking to move to france would really care about. They would care about the community, though. Schools, parks, recreational activities, stores and shops, etc. 2. Realtors in France (if you want to include the competition). I don't think I would include realtors from around the world since this would not be of any interest to your visitors looking for property in France. 3. General Real Estate links, i.e. mortgages and loans sites, home inspection and moving companies in France, appraisal sites, french removal company like you mentioned, etc. This is the type of informatin I think would be valuable to your visitors. Build your site for your visitors and the search engines will follow. Hope this helps.
I think relevance by product is much stronger than simply a relevance by region. If you are selling papercups, then link to ALL papercup factories world wide. I mean, we live in a global market -google know that. I accept property is soooo ubiqitous that you have to be a bit more choosy, but not that much more choosy IMO
I still think in this case revelance by region would be the way to go. I don't see any reason to include real estate websites from around the world, but of course you could. It wouldn't hurt I suppose. Your visitors would not have any interest in these sites, but google may. Depends on who you are building your site for, your visitors or google.
rumble, have you been trying to exchange reciprocal links with these sites? essentially, how are you getting them to put your link up?
I am sorry to said that I do not rely so much of relevance. I know a site on real estate property too. It only have less than 20 pages and no major link building activity except on the blogs that is absolutely not relevant. Yet these blog have high authority. Now this blog is ranking high on the keyword with less competition but poorly rank against keyword with heavy competition. When i increase more back link from irrelevant site as long as it has PR then ranking started to grow. I think it is the number of domain backlink that is more important than the relevancy. I know a site too with 4k visitors daily for only 40 google backlinks.
Personally speaking I do not believe that relevancy matters. Build high PR quality links and the rest will fall into place. As far as what to link to directly from your site, I do think from a user experience stand point that keeping the outgoing links relative to the South of France is important....incoming links give you all the choices in the world though.
Being Relevant is better than being non relevant. I believe that relevancy does matter a lot as it creates user's trust and enhance credibility of your site. Thanks
Google want us to work with relevance. Do you think Google will give away its algorithm? The truth is, you should think beyond the 4 corner of your room
