I could understand that if I use a photo of a person I would need their permission before publishing it. That's what releases are for, right? What about a close up photo of another persons dog?? Just the dog. If I am using a photo of the dog as my site "mascot" in a way. Can they request cease and desist or cash for their muts' photo? Surely not. Did you take the photo? If not, you need permission to use anything you did not create. If you took the photo, to be safe, you would get a property release that states the owner of the property (pet) is giving you consent to take and use images of their property (especially for commercial use). If it is a building on public property, you generally do not need a release.
