Related Sites - related:mysite.com

What are the factors/criteria for a site to appear in a related search to my site? i.e. related:mysite.com

I've found a few I can't figure out. No backlinks, unrelated theme etc.

 

I was also wondering about that, but one day I stopped

I thought it was checking your site against others for more of a duplicate content reason.
Who knows. I will be very interested to see the answer.

If it's to simply see competitors what a waste of time.

 

After a bit of research i found a post on another forum stating

related sites are actually sites which either:

linked to you or

linked from you or

linked to a site which linked to you or

linked to a site which linked from you

 

I agree with this. Also you should include sites which link to the same sites as you.
