Hi All, I'm trying to get a few links set up in time for the big Google thing people are talking about. My site is about accounting software, so am trying to get links from accounting or software sites but not direct competitors. Mt question is,,,,,, am I better getting a site wide link from a PR4 site from one of the above or a single PR6 site which it totally unrelated? Thanks for any advice Steve
i would say the first because its from a related site and would be a relevant link, i would make the pr6 my second choice simply because pr only applies to google and wouldnt help you at all in msn or yahoo.
Why cant you get them both? I would also check the traffic details for the PR4 related site because you would be mainly looking for traffic from those links. If it is low in traffic I wouldnt waste my time since you probably wont receive any from them and go with the PR6. But there are a lot more variables to look at then just PR for link exchanging.
Hmmm two conflicting replies,,,, dont ya just love forums ;-) All I am really trying to do is get my PR up a bit, I don't want to get both as they are each going to cost me money, I just want to get some PR so people will be happy to exchange genuine links with me (so just to give it a bit of a boost to start off). I'm not so worried about the traffic as the software I sell is UK specific so traffic from the US won't actually lead to any sales anyway. I will concentrate on UK links once I have some PR as at the moment they arent exactly keen to exchange with me. Do you think this is the right strategy? Thanks, Steve
so i guess it depends on what you really want for you site. PR - Has a small effect on search results on google only, not effect on yahoo/msn. Makes your toolbar look a little nicer. Relevant Link with Targetted Traffic - Has weight in all search engines. Gain traffic that will be intereted in ur site (potential customers) due to the fact they come to your link via a related site.
I wouldn't sweat PR too much. The only reason most people worry about it is because it's like a trading currency around alot of places. Good to have some, that's a decent indication you're doing some things right - but in the end it's all about getting SERP's and traffic. Some people peddle PR, I'd rather peddle content and get natural traffic. I can control my content, I can't control what Google decides to do with my sites PR.
I would say go for the pr 4 if because of how relevant it is. The PR 6 would be good for PR but that is about it. All the books I've read on seo talks about how important relevancy is as opposed to just getting your link on a site because of its PR.
