rel="nofollow" vs follow

    I have a vb forum and just got the link directory from vbadvanced. In it I can automatically make all submitted links follow or nofollow. I am curious which setting would be more advantageous to my site from an SEO point of view?

    I haven't delved into SEO for a few years. If I remember correctly outgoing links were thought to be good for your site because it added value to the internet. Has that changed?

    It is not a general link directory. It is an industry based website and all outgoing links will be industry related.

    Well with a forum you're going to want to follow so the spiders can make their rounds...but you'll no doubt get a lot of spammers settling in so make a min post count before the user gets a signature. Too many outbound links on a page is gunna damage you so try and nofollow parts of the forum that are of no real use.

    Sure.... all the links on the forum are follow links. It is just the link directory that has the nofollow. These are the links that point to other domains.

    as long as you are able to moderate the links that are added, i dont think the dofollow will hurt you and it should help your popularity if you advertise it as being a dofollow directory.

    It is actually a pretty good directory. I have a lot of control over it. I don't think the people that come to the site really know much about SEO.

    Thanks for the information.

    If you are linking quality relevant sites then go for dofollow. That will help the sites listed in your directory. And if you are linking to authority sites it will also give you slight SEO advantage.

    I too think the same way. put a condition that minimum 10 post is required to get signature advantages. also implement infractions. look at DP. learn from them :)

    Making it dofollow will bring some spam, if you manage to control the spam it can actually be good for you. Because you will get listed in many blogs (dofollow forums list) as well as forums and get some useful backlinks and traffic.

    I changed it to dofollow. You need to be registered and logged in to submit to the directory. I'm catching as much spam as I can at the registration process... even before I put up the directory.

    Thanks

    Let us admit it. Most of the forum posters are looking for a DO FOLLOW forums; so if you'll set your forums in NO FOLLOW, there is a low chance to get members to join in. If you'll put the forums in DO FOLLOW, have some co moderators to help you monitors the whole forums.

    Yup, it because SEO is after Google not other search engine because yahoo and ask.com etc can crawl even no-follow attributes.
