We are all very familiar with nofollow, but can anyone provide a detailed rundown of how rel="me" works? I Googled it and was not very satisfied with what I learned. I am curious to know how links tagged rel="me" are valued (or not) by search engines like Google. Thanks!
I guess all rel values except "nofollow" have no special meanings for Google. According to w3c rel attribute "describes the relationship from the current document to the anchor specified by the href attribute. The value of this attribute is a space-separated list of link types." Some information about tagging data with rel attribute could be found here. And finally, quote from Google blog which shows that this attribute could contain any data:
Thanks for the thoughts! If I were Google I might take a look at rel=me links and say well at best they're not very useful in determining the importance or value of the information at their destination, and at worst they're relatively easily abused by search marketers, so I might devalue them in comparison to normal links. But, I'm not Google. If anyone else has thoughts on this tag I'm still curious to hear them!
