rel=dofollow links

    I have turned off nofollow attributes on my website/blog and allowed dofollow simply to reward decent commenting.

    What is the best spam killing plugin i can use to kill the obvious spam comments?

    Has anyone else had any probs with dofollow links?

    Thank you.

    To my knowledge, there's no such an attribute as rel="dofollow". Everything which is not nofollow is by default followed...

    As to spam comments, nofollow is what is supposed to fight that...

    Adding captcha can also minimize comment spam.

    You can simply enable comment moderation. You will then be able to approve all the good comments and delete the spam comments without them being published in your site.

    The captcha code has been broken by the new spam bots. Your going to need to use ReCaptcha instead of the older captcha. If your blog is using wordpress, do a search for the ReCaptcha comment modification, it should fix you up. Your going to need an account at the ReCaptcha homepage. But its free, so no big deal there.

    There are some math test you should try. It apears like a simple math problem (3+7)=.... Search for a plugin for WP. AKismet is great, but keep comments under moderation if you want to gave a grip on the situation.

    I think that a dofollow blog would increase your site's traffic, but this is traffic that is of low quality conversion wise. But still, it's traffic. For spam comments, I do suggest that you moderate the comments. That way you can filter out obvious spam and unrelated comments.

    If you are using WP (WordPress) there are some plugins. If you are using another software, check on their homepage.

    Your welcome.

    At another webmaster forum I am a member of, this guy was complaining that his blog was getting around 500 - 600 spam comments a week. When he installed the ReCaptcha modification, all of those spam post stopped. His comments about the modification got me interested, so I went to his blog to take a look. I was impressed by how simple the ReCaptcha modification was and how professional it looked. This was about 6 - 8 weeks ago. And as far as I know, the spam bots have been kept at bay.

    There are some other modifications out there, like the math problems. That is all fine and dandy, but recaptcha is becoming the industry standard. Places like myspace and facebook are supposed to be using recaptcha. So people are getting used to seeing it. This puts your blog more along the lines of a professional site, like myspace and facebook. When someone visits your blog, do you want them to say - "hey, facebook uses this same system." Or do you want them to say - "what is this system? Why dont this blog use something like facebook?" If you want to look professional, you want to dress and act the part. And in my opinion, that is what ReCaptcha does. It makes your site look a little bit more professional.

    There is no DOFOLLOW ONLY NOFOLLOW and neither one will prevent the spam because most of it is automated.
