Hi guys, I have seen on so many sites tht they are putting something like <link rel="alternate" title="" type="application/rss+xml" /> To give search engines an alternate XML page. So I want to clear how much it is benifitial for a site to put a link like this. and can i put this links on every web page providing its alternate page. One is SEs dnt have to crawl the page it ll directly get links & text (content) from page.....need to know other benifits & risks....
The main purpose of this tag is to help users to find the RSS feed to put into their RSS readers. It is also used by blog search engines, like technorati. The benefit of this is that the search engines can see a summary of all your content, and when it was last updated. You can submit your RSS feeds to Google Sitemaps and to Yahoo SiteExplorer, or leave it for them to find themselves. All this really does it help your website get indexed properly. There's no risk to having alternate feeds. I would however only include them on your home page. You don't need to have a seperate feed for every single page. Cryo.
