    Hi guys,
I have a page with text that people can download in pdf format by clicking on a certain link..
Is it best to use rel="alternate" for that link to let Google know it is an alternate version of the page
    OR
is it best to use rel="nofollow" in this case so that Google does not follow the link at all ?
    Thanks
    Amator

if the PDF on your own site, use alternate or use nothing
if the PDF on others site, if trust as above, if not, use nofollow

    Thanks for your answer.
The pdf is on my site. You suggest to use nothing. The pdf if an almost an exact copy of the page. Is it not bad if I put a dofollow link ?

Nofollow will not prevent from google to follow the link. It is just for PR juice.

don't use the nofollow if you don't need or understand why.
if you have a good- 2,000 word white paper or manual- let google scan it.

it won't placed the PDF on the first page, and no reduce to your PR juice so don't worry...

I am not sure if you understand my worry. The worry is duplicate content, as mentioned before the pdf is almost an exact copy of the html page.
What is in that case the best option ?
