Reinstalling XP - should I install apps to a separate partition/drive?

I'm about to reinstall XP and am thinking this time I'll setup some partitions first, or at least install my applications to a separate drive. I've got 2 x physical 80GB drives to use for Windows and all my applications, and 1GB RAM.

I've always just run everything off my C drive, and used D for documents and the swap file.

I'm sure there's a better way... what is it?

I store big files in D drive, and install everything in C. Its the best way i suppose :D

I've read a few things that suggest having a partition on your C drive for the swap file, and all your applications on a separate drive is a good idea.

I also read a few things that totally contradict this too
