It seems my homepage has been dropped. All of the other pages are still in teh index but when I do a site:mydomain.com on MSN it doesn't show my homepage. I even search for "mydomain" and don't get my homepage. I don't know what's going on but if there is a reinclusion request procedure for MSN other than just waiting I'd like to know. This whole ordeal plus the fact that about a week or so ago MSN dropped my site for 24 hours has made me notice how little I know about MSN SEO. Beleive it or not losing the MSN traffic has costed me $40 per day for the past fw days so any help is much appreciated.
One of my best sites has a record of being dropped off MSN for 2 months, it got back just yesterday, don't worry. Most of the time it gets back in a few days or a couple of weeks, it has nothing to do with your knowledge of SEO. Some guys here have tried MSN reinclusion request and one of them was very happy about the result, you might want to try it. .
I noticed on my site that MSN had over 5000 pages indexed for the past couple of months. The site has around 1000 pages. More than likely many of my pages were getting duplicated. The past couple of weeks I’ve noticed that the number of pages I have indexed has been dropping everyday and it is now to the point where only about 14 pages are indexed. While all of this is going on, MSN is still hitting my index page every day for updates. My thinking is they are working on purging their system of duplicate pages and will do a deep crawl eventually to try and fix the problem. I don’t think they would continue to hit an index page on a daily basis if they were taking the site out of their index entirely, but who knows. Anyone else noticed that MSN has shown a much higher number of pages from your site than actually exist?
GeorgeB read this topic: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=79415 I have the same problem, MSN keeps dropping some of my sites and no apparent reason for it. .
I think MSN is trying to catch up with Google in terms of what they want to see in their own search results. With “Vista†coming out early next year and the government paving the path to allow MSN to be the default search on that new OS. MSN has a golden opportunity to expand their user base by millions of people, if those folks like the results they are getting from their search engine. Considering how big the Internet is and how many people are trying to game the results, MSN needs this extra time to improve their results before they release “Vistaâ€. If I worked at Google this new OS release and now the government OK that allows Microsoft to use their own search engine as the default would scare me to death. For most casual Internet users, they use whatever default is given when they go to their start-up page. Over the years I’ve seen this happen with AOL consumers and I have no doubt the same thing will happen when “Vista†hits billions of computers next year. The test for MSN is to have good results or they will have wasted one of the best opportunities they have seen in decades to grow Microsoft to the next level.
My site was dropped from MSN recently, for a period of about 3 weeks. Totally de-indexed except for 1 page (a .xls file funnily enough). Many other people I have spoken to have experienced the same thing and it was around the same time of the Live launch,so maybe it corresponds with that I don't know. The site is fully re-indexed now and all search terms seem to have regained their full steam as well. I was told to have patience and wait a few weeks, its the best advice I can pass on to others...
