Hello, we are creating a new registration form for our website and we have been having discussion about this issue of having 1 or more registration steps. We provide loans, so we need much more details to include in form than regular websites. Do you think is better to have all the fields on one step or we should divided into more steps : Step 1 - Personal details - Step 2 - Employment.. and so on. What will have less dropouts in registration (leaving the registration process)? Or we should do A/B testing? Many thanks for any help
Yeah chodel, i am agree with your idea like less dropouts in your registration form, see it becomes tedious or annoying for customers, if you have more steps in simple registration form. Try to collect all the fields together in a single form, and avoid taking the useless information from customers, short and simple information which suits to your business looks good! But if your business require more information from customers and more screefuls are then do go for steps! i hope, I've answered you well! Ask me further still you find any difficulty with it!
How many fields/questions do you have? If you DO go for multiple pages, then make sure you have a progression bar at the top of the page to let people know they are half way through, nearly done, etc. Nothing worse than people dropping out on the second last page.
I agree with the 2 previous replies; 1 - Keep it simple for the customers 2 - Use a progression bar (great idea)
I would suggest even less - use just 1 page for both login and registration. When user navigates to this page, a radio group (New member (selected), Returning member) and an email address input box are shown. If the visitor clicks while the "new member" is selected, he is redirected to the new registration page with his email field passed. If the visitor selects "Returning member", a new password field appears/adds (ajax) to the form. If the visitor clicks while the "Returning member" is selected, he just logs in. Please see Amazon.com, their simplified form is the best for sure.
