Hi, I live in Malaysia and the domain wikipedia.com.my and wiki.com.my is available for registration. my idea is to register them and build an encyclopedia in our native language. of course this will not be a non-profit site like wikipedia.org, I will be using third party ads. i.e adsense, chitika etc... I just wanted to know about the legal side of this. could anyone give me a clear answer ? thank you.
Generally, trademark issues. But because this is a country-code domain name being referred to here, that is something only a legal expert (e.g. lawyer) in your country can answer.
It is obviously trademarked but as Dave said, whether than will cause you any problems in Malaysia is a Malaysian law question: I would avoid using it in the EXACT way they do "WIKIPEDIA with the "W" and "A" in larger typeface"
