Registering expired domains

    Hi all,

A domain with very high traffic is about to expire. It was registered for 4 years straight (since 2002), so there is a small chance that the current owner will forget to extend the registration. Problem is, the site under this domain is still active and the owner probably doesn't know it's about to expire.

What kind of problems can I have if the domain expires and I register it? Is it illegal?

    Thanks for your help.

There is a very good article about how to get an expiring domain at the URL below. I highly recommend you read it, it helped me a long time ago when I bought an expiring domain for $700.

One warning however... if there is traffic AND that the domain is about to expire... there are a lot of people who specialize in just that, so do not think you will be the only one to plan to buy it back. And be ready to bid $$$;-+

Common misconception is that an expired domain will not cost a lot, they do. As TeddyD has said, there are loads of guys out there who spend all their time buying expired domains for clients, etc, and they know the ways to acheive their goal.
