I am making a new website tonight. I would like to know what you think the advantages of an older domain name would be.

Older domain names usually tend to hold more value. Some might have some PR value with it or even back links. All depends on the domain name and cost.

but lately, it seems a lot of the good domain names are taken (mostly parked pages where some guy wants $$$ for it). Pisses me off.

If you're buying an old domain then you will want to make sure that it's in the exact same niche as the website you want to build or it won't hold to much value.

expired domain is good, if the expired domain doesn't used any black-hat seo technique

else, the domain may be penalized in future...

If the keyword, PR is good, then prefer the expired domain. But is rare to see good and valuable domain expiring... Need to check regularly

Old domain is better option but only when the domain has history and some good backlinks. Old domain only with few links from expired domains list mean nothing.

Some time ago I bought an expired domain (it was EXPIRED, not sold by it's previous owner), and it was a good decision; It was already receiving traffic and had got some links too. You have to be lucky to find such, mostly they're just expired domains that have never received a visitor.

    Hi!

It would be wise to do some research on the expired domain if it has been used for any bad practices which might caused google to blacklist it already.

I would think a new domain would be good because you can choose your domain. Meaning you can have your keyword in your domain and rank much higher!

Does anyone here make a living from buying expired domains and selling them for profit?

Go for aged domains ideally with PR2+. Reason being is that as soon as you begin optimizing them again, you can easily rank. Make sure before you buy one that you check it's actually ranked. Google: 'info:www.site.com' to check. Or use a site like www.checkpagerank.net

The PR of expired domain name start falling very soon so buying expired domain name for PR rather than relevant niche won't worth much.

well, if a new domain completely reflects to your projects it's not bad to register a new domain but.. there are so much advantages of buying a expired domain name .... not just some random expired domain name but a good one, aged, backlinks, type of backlinks, backlinks anchor text you should research properly to find a expired name for your project.. thousands of great name expires daily.. btw just go to BST section of dp forum you will find great deals there, aged domains will give you great results than a new domain.
