Registering a .net in the UK - But I'm targetting American audience

Should I register with a UK company, or go for an American one?

Or doesn't it matter for the SE results?

For SE, it doesn't matter, but for business in the US a .net would be better than a .UK

I just want to register a .net with a UK company - I'm assuming they will have servers in the UK, and wondered if this would effect my chance of ranking on say google.com

Is it only .co.uk and such which would see a negative effect in rankings on the international scale, and it doesn't matter where .net's are based/hosted etc?

    Thanks,

    Pete

If your targetting a predominently US audience I'd go with the .net extension. Where it's hosted wouldn't matter a great deal.

As for international tld's ranking on google.com, with good seo you'll still rank well. I really think it would be one very small factor in the whole sceem of things.

US searches can apply some localisation to filter results, it works much more accurately over there than it does over here. It might be worth hosting the site and the domain in the US if your only targets are there.

However, it's not a massive factor, I'm sure that many US users will order anyway as long as you accept their currency and support their language "features".
