Hi there I have my own website business, and been thinking about if its better to registering multiple domain names under the one name e.g. example.com, example.net, example.biz, example.org, etc? If so, will this affect SEO in google e.g. duplicated content? I have never done this before, but if I were to register multiple domain names, would you redirect them under one url or make all of them separate but the same site? Thanks in advance CHEERS
Hey buckmajor, regarding Google's stance on duplicate content you should read this article: http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2009/09/16/google-busts-the-duplicate-content-myth I personally would redirect all of them to the .com, but you could set up a landing page on each domain, but I would use fresh content on each imho. Hope that helps
Hey Jordan That was very helpful, I had no idea about the canonical tag vs 301 redirect until now. But after reading some of the comments, it led me to view other search engines out there, to discover sites that may not be listed in google. Anyway, I still have to finish off reading them.
I would redirect them all to your main website URL. This is called brand protection and is very common. Just be aware your renewal fees are usually much higher for those "other" top level domain names. I've seen .com and .net renew for as low as $6 or $7 USD but the second year renewals for .biz and .info are higher at $12 and $14 USD at some domain registrars.
.com is the most popular. So I'd like to advise you to redirect all the other domains to the .com one. This would also be convenient to manage and can help you save a lot of time.Well, time is money.Lol.
If you make them separate at the same time for which proposes will you use them? For the same web site content?
