Registering A Business Advice Needed

I'm currently looking into registering as a business for my largest site. It's a basically a partnership between myself and another guy and we're at the point where we need to have a business tax id or business documentation to get into industry events.

My question is what should I file as? Would a DBA suffice or do I need to do an LLC or something of that sort. I'm looking at all the descriptions, but I'm not sure what fits my needs best. Any advice or direction would be helpful.

    Thanks

It costs more, but I'd really talk to an attorney. There are reasons why some firms file for different status. DBA = Doing Business As and many states you need to have another business setup. To get a Fed Tax ID is free, but most states will charge you to setup your business for a state sales tax ID.
