I just did this and i though some people might want to know this.

Within the next few weeks, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start receiving sales calls.
YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.

Think this is just for US.
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone 888-382-1222 or visit www.donotcall.gov

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THE WORD ON.

:) hope this helps let me know if you have any questions

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE
    NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ that says at home and on a cell phone and you cant be charged for people calling you unless you accept the charges when asked.

I think its referring to cost of minutes as in you have a plan for 500 min and it will eat up ur minutes picking up and hanging up u have to understand that what telemarketers you receive now its noting compared to what you will they are letting everyone call anyone anytime at anytime of day i just listed all my numbers I think the sooner the better

That's madness, kinda like paying to receive mail.

I'm pretty sure your cell rates are only a fraction of ours in Australia though, so it's still probably way cheaper in the US.

yha well my plan right now is $100/mo for 3 lines and 1000 min during the day unlimited mobile to mobile (meaning the caller and the recipient has to have the same company) and unlimited nights and weekends its a sweet deal but not when telemarketers call you and wastes you minutes.
