Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve the regional hit rate? I am getting about double the traffic from the US than I am from the UK, so I want to increase my UK traffic to try and get better conversion rates.

I think you should more focus on specific market especially to your niche area, for this possibly you need to to develop your offline contact and look for a cost effective ad campaign.

I run a couple of regional sites, and the thing that helps most for me is to add businesses from my niche on my site. For example, my wife's DJ (mobile disco to you Brits) website is regional, and she has some links and addresses to local wedding businesses. Because 99% of the businesses in my area are doofuses when it comes to web promotion, her site often outranks theres even with a search for their business name. As a result, we get a lot of traffic that comes to her site looking for another business. If your site is just as regional, keep hammering away at UK related keywords. Especially look for words that are spelled differently in the UK than they are in the US. For example, I think you guys spell automobile tires "tyre" or pajamas as "pyjama". (Forgive me if I'm worng, I am just a stupid American after all ;) )
