While im adding categories to my directory im contemplating a regional category, if you have one in place on your directory do you accept english language submissions only in your regional category or do you accept any language into that category?

If my region is NA, then for sure would prefer English. But if its Europe, then I would be open to accept German or Spanish language listings..

Theres no major downside in the search engines is there, for listing a few non english sites in an english language directory?

Also, although i understand that a regional category is for Asia,Europe,Africa etc, do you think it would be going too far to have country categories within each region? because of course europe covers many languages, or asia and maybe its best to keep them seperate.

One possibility is to list English language sites in your Regional category and if you'd like to include foreign language sites you could create a World category for those.

There is no down side that I'm aware of when it comes to listing foreign language sites on a predominantly English language site (many directories already do). I'm sure the same consideratios would apply as far as listing sites that may have issues or are banned in the search engines.

That is a possibility, and would keep things nicely categorized.

Thats right, i agree, the fact that a site could have questionable content or other issues, so it should be ok with the foreign sites as long as their decent and everything.

    Thanks

Well most of the things have been explained above.
I actually added a "Foreign Language Sites" category under regional and there I have 10 different languages... .
What I mean to say is, you can group other language sites and can add them under "Regional" besides grouping with respect to Regions/areas.

I've got a regional category for English sites that are for a specific region and a non English category for all non English sites. I see this as a better solution because some sites are not in English but they are not just for a specific country. Sites in French or Spanish for example

I allow different languages in the regional categories, and also have a category for spanish, with many subcats in it. Rest of the directory is for English

I think it would really depend on whether you understand non-english sites enough to see what type of websites they are and whether the site is spammy.

A good point there, there is quite a large chunk of the world that use spanish and a number of countries speaking french.
