Hi, Here's my question. My traffic ranking is 280,655 on alexa and my competition is 90,000, on alexa toolbar. Is there anything that I can look for in the other site by comparison that I might do?
no. just keep doing what you're doing. 280,655 is pretty good. actually, alexa rankings don't mean a lot (maybe nothing!) anyway. good luck.
Build up your pagerank and maybe offer incentives to members to post more. I recently offered a contest and offered a prize to 2 members that showed the best involvement (because it's a new forum). Built up your PageRank, attract more users, SEO your forum so spiders can easily find it and index it. Basically do what you would do with any other site to drive more traffic.
My Alexa Rank started at 50Lacs a Month ago. But now it has come at 1Lac+ But Alexa is Nothing as per other DP members. Better working on Backlinks.
OK, as for building up my page rank, you say to just keep doing what I am doing, that's fine. Is there a special forum to read regarding page rank?
You should read through the threads on this board, "General Marketing", as well as "Search Engine Optimization" and "Link Development". The major concept is building backlinks and lots of original content for your site. Also, depending on what your goal is, focusing on PR may just turn into time and even money poorly spent. A lot of people get distracted by trying to build PR and miss (or put off) opportunities to build traffic, which is usually more important. Remember, a higher PR doesn't always mean more traffic. I have a site which has been a PR 3 for a long time now and gets over 1000 unique visitors per day, while my brother's company site has been a PR 6 for more than a year and gets less than 50 visitors per day, as an example. There's a treasure of knowledge here on the DP forums for both PR and traffic building. Read through it all and ask questions when you have them. Good luck and happy holidays, Scott EDIT: I just realized that the original question was regarding alexa ranking and not 'page rank'--so I apologize for going off-topic. However, my comments would still be the same as alexa is a bad barometer to use since it gets its numbers from surfers who have the alexa toolbar installed. Since that makes up only a small percentage of traffic on most sites, the ranking is "a guess" at best. In-fact, the site I mentioned above which gets over 1000 uniques per day is not ranked at all by alexa. My best suggestion is read through the forums, try some of the ideas that make sense for you and your site, then watch your actual traffic logs to see what works and what doesn't.
Alexa doesnt really mean anything, if your site has an admin and some users who have alexa toolbar installed, your site will get decent rankings.
Alexa is Worth nothing. Alexa Comes in use when you want to sell Space from your Site in Adbrite. Thats the only site i have seen which sees the value of a site by Alexa Rankings and pays you more for a better alexa rank.
