Hey guys Regarding the Use of company names in URL's and in Content Q1. Well, i was wondering, do people get into trouble when they have domains with a companies name in it? I see it all the time and i wonder if the real companies care that some people use their name in the domain or do they get permission to use the names? Q2. What about when people blog about companies and their name brands/trademarks? Can anyone just start blogging about companies and use their names in their content? (**Do bloggers need to mention something on their blogs so it is ok to mention names/brands?) *I ask because i was thinking about aquiring a site, but then thought that the real company that owned the brand name might do something since the domain had their name in it. So i did'nt buy it. *Will some people get into trouble for things like this? *I'd like to know so i can be sure it's alright to do so without thoughts of getting into trouble with companies. For example, as in some sites that follow a certain subject like a video game and they write all about that subject within the site. Q.3. Are those types of sites ok to operate since they mention the brand names/trademark and everything about whatever they focus on.(the characters names, etc.) Well, any ideas? Thanks for the help guys frenzy
A number of companies will send a cease & desist order if you use their name in your URL. Myspace always threatens doing that and I think they have shut some people down. But as far as blogging about a brand, you should be fine. I'd consider that "fair use" of a trademark. And who wouldn't want the free publicity?
