What are they used for? Could you link me to few of them?

There are a lot of different tools used for different things - keyword tools like Google adwords keyword tool - https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal or something like hittail - http://www.hittail.com

And backlink tools, like Yahoo Site Explorer - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com or backlink watch - http://www.backlinkwatch.com

And tools to evaluate trends like Google insights - http://www.google.com/insights/search

Then there are tools to check technical things - this - http://www.rexswain.com/httpview.html - is an excellent tool to check redirects

That's just a few examples - there are loads of different tools out there for different purposes- and a lot of excellent free ones

Oh man, there are tons of them, the tricky thing is to pin point which ones can be of use to you.

The ones that I recommend are Market Samurai for keyword research, and if you are after a start to finish kind of thing, SBI! is a great tool for people to use, but they are all paid of course.

There are tons of others as mentioned above, but yeah, in general with some of the paid ones that do have a reputation, if you pay good for tools, you are going to get an edge over others. Depends on what it is that you need.

There are plenty of tools that help with link building, keywords, submission, etc, its just a matter of finding those that do help.

Spyfu is another tool used for detailed keyword research apart from Google Adword's External keyword Tool.
Another tool i use to check the global monthly search volume on Google/Yahoo/Bing for a particular keyword is spacky : Dumb Name Awesome Tool

I checked Google's keyword tool and Wordtracker. There seems to be inconsistencies; have you experienced that as well?

I would recommend some add-ons using on Firefox like seoquake, seo4firefox, firebug and rank checker. :)

    Have a nice day,
