    Hi, all I am new to this site and but i am not new to internet :).... i am jsut trying to gain someknowledge as I am not a tech head at all so please bear with silly question. Thanks

    What does the codes below do ?

    1) <meta name="robots" content="index, follow" />
    does this means crawlers are being stoppedor are guided?

    2) <meta name="googlebot" content="index, follow" />
    Does that mean all the content are assigned as metas??

    3) <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
    Is is something similar to the above.

    Onceagain sorry for silly questions as I said i amnew. Thanks

    The last one defines the character set encoding for the page. Others, as stated tell search engine robots/crawlers the pages can be indexed and links should be followed.

    Thanks you all very much. some more :)

    <meta name="distribution" content="global" />
    <meta name="revisit" content="3 days" />
    <meta name="robots" content="all" />(does this mean taht robots ask crawlers to scan through the whole content on the page)

    Thanks

    Revisit suggests when SE spiders should reindex the site ( it should be revisit-after). distribution global is public access versus local or internal use only. Robots all, means search the entire site. Which is what the index,follow meant too but hey tell them twice. Here's a page listing meta tags:

    That first one is used to declare the distribution of your web content.

    There are three classifications of distribution: Global (the entire web), Local (reserved for the local IP block of your site), and IU (Internal Use, not for public distribution).

    The purpose of the second tag is to inform search engines when to come back and index your site again.

    Third: To control search engine robots on a per-page basis.
