Regarding: Expired Domains Sup, question: LETS SAY, a domain was registered in 2001 and the owner then made a little site for it and all that, THEN couple years down the line he decides to stop paying for the host and lets the domain expire, and then ,LETS SAY, I decide to purchase this domain which has a keyword in it, would the domain name be worth something then just because the domain was ORIGINALLY registered in 2001 or since its now re-registered under new owner and the whois stats will say creation date:2009 is the site not worth what it would had it remained under the original registrar???? THANKS
I've been wondering that too. Since you can get some good domain names from people who just nevr put the time into the site or just stopped. From what I've seen on this site weither a domain has been dropped or not has very little to do with it. Mostly its the domain it self, its pagerank status, but then again that it what I have noticed.
no....the age only applies if it has NOT been dropped since the time it was first registered. If it has been dropped, the ago only applies since the date it was registered on and hasnt been dropped.
Google is saying now that the pagerank and the domain age are being reset after they have been dropped, so the URL might not be worth what you think it is
Check out web [dot] archive [dot] org before you purchase any old domains (dropped or not). Sometime the domain was associated with a website that isn't good for business (porn, racial bias, etc.). As far as old dropped domains go, there is no point of buying them unless you like the name. In the eyes of Google, the domains are new if registered after a drop.
Even though the PR is reset, if the old IBL's are still in place, it should get back to the previous value at the next Google dance.
