Hi, If i have a listing in dmoz and i want to update it, is there any harm doing this? would it be beneficial to update Dmoz.org listing and chage the listing category ?
I'm not sure. I would imagine that once you have had a website listed in DMOZ, providing the quality of the site doesn't change, then you should be able to update it. If you are changing what the site is about, then it may need to be re-evaluated to see if they have a need for another site within that niche. Others may shed some light on this. Andy
I don't think that you can change category in dmoz.org but i think you can sent a mail to dmoz help center for that que. hope you will get some help
I submitted my site to DMOZ over 3 months ago and it's still not there. Someone told me that you have to have a pagerank before you submit or they won't accept you. I don't think that's true though. Once you're in, I don't think you can change it. They select the category for you and sometimes they won't even put you in the category that you suggest because they find a more "suitable" one.
I had a site that changed urls but had kept the same content. I email DMOZ to see if they would change my url to the new one and within 24 hours they did it for me. I think an email would not hurt but from my experience they treated me very well.
Just use the update listing link at the menu on the top of the page in the appropriate cat, where the site is listed. Explain the requirements etc, without hype, make sure that they are not keyword stuffing and stuff like that. Updates are generally attended to pretty fast as they tend to be easy and enjoyable for volunteers to spend time on. Hope this helps.
DMOZ will list you if they think it is relivent and warrents a listing.... PR does not matter at all... It's hard to get in, but sometimes the submission works.. Sometimes it doesn't - it really depends on the category editor..
How long do you think I should wait until I re-submit? I know that they tell you not to submit all the time or your listing will just get placed lower and lower in priority.
I'm not sure if that is actually true or not about the priority level..... I think things are just pending when their pending with no priority level..... I would guess that once every six months should be appropriate.... If your category has no editor, you might be better off finding a different category which does have an editor listed.... Although he just may move it to the other category where there is no editor, but if it happens to be a meta editor, I think they approve a listing in any category.
I'm convinced DMOZ is just full of editors with their own agenda. If you are lucky enough to be there at all I would just leave it alone.
